Overview of the Adult Congenital Heart Disease Fellowship Program

  • One fellow per year, from either a pediatric or internal medicine background
  • ACGME-accredited in 2016 (one of first 7 programs in the country)
  • ACHA Center of Excellence Accreditation in 2018
  • Advanced training possible in noninvasive, cath, heart failure-transplant, pulmonary hypertension as elective rotations
  • Strong partnership with the Pediatric Cardiology program
  • 80 adult critical care beds (4 total critical care units)
  • 722 total bed adult hospital
  • 24,000 outpatient visits, 2,400 admissions, 240 congenital surgeries, 3,300 interventional cardiology cases, 14,400 echocardiograms
  • Case volume well above ACGME required numbers in congenital echocardiography, TEE, EP studies, adult congenital cardiac catheterization, and congenital CT surgery
  • Mississippi’s only Adult Congenital Heart Disease outpatient clinic
  • Referrals of all levels of complexity are sent from around the state
  • All Adult and Pediatric cardiac subspecialties are represented
  • Strong faculty mentoring program which can tailor your training towards academics or private practice
  • Comprehensive didactic conference schedule and professional development opportunities
  • Call coverage is compliant with ACGME-mandated duty hours; adequate time for research is provided
  • Multiple Moonlighting opportunities available for both adult and pediatric trained fellows
